Energy and the Creative

Energy is everywhere. Universal energy is all around us, and that is unavoidable.

Sometimes, this energy feels light and airy, fun and full of love. We like this, it feels good. It can bring a sense of peace and calm, a sense of excitement, or maybe an air of productivity and an "it's time to get stuff done now" vibe.

On the flip side, there are times when the energy around us feels really dense, heavy, thick. This is the energy that makes you want to lie down and take a nap. It doesn't feel good, and it often leaves the creative entrepreneur feeling stuck or stagnant in the creative process.

Depending on what it is you are trying to create, the energy around us can either help or hinder us. Our job as a creative entrepreneur is to understand the difference, and recognize how the energy around us can help us in our work.

It’s easy to say that we want everything to be positive all the time. That feels really good. And, when we feel good, things seem to happen faster, almost effortlessly. Let's face it, it's easier to self-motivate when life is running smoothly.

The reality is - life doesn’t work that way. While everything is a lesson, life experience tells us that not everything that happens is a happy occasion. To put it a bit bluntly, life can sometime suck.

And, when you are trying to get that manuscript written, or finish that piece of artwork or song, it's hard to self-motivate when you feel like the weight of the world is weighing your thoughts down.

Here's the thing, though - you can control your energy!

Life can be sucky, yes. However, I believe that we will get where we want to go, faster, when we acknowledge the pain or the setbacks, see them as lessons and opportunities to grow. then learn the lesson and let it go.

Let it go where? I am so glad you asked!

Those opportunities can be channeled into your work, allowing you to share with greater magnitude, a louder voice, one that helps others realize that they are not alone. It brings an authenticity to your creative work that evokes emotion with those who need it.

It has the power to create community. Your work has the power to heal others!

The trick, though, is knowing when the energy is sticking around for too long, and holding us back. When you are holding on to the energy of everyone around you, it becomes a challenge to tune into your true, authentic self. Took me a bit of time to learn that one, but it's an important lesson to understand as a creative soul.

If you have ever walked into a crowded room only to suddenly feel this sense of dread, fear, or overwhelming exhaustion, this is the kind of energy I am talking about. It’s the stuff that stifles creativity, makes you want to take a nap instead of working through the feelings or obstacles. Avoidance gets you nowhere, my friends (been there, done that...).

The good news is - we can help ourselves get rid of that negative energy.

When you find yourself in such a situation, try this short visualization to boost your authentic creativity!

You can use this exercise any time you feel the similar energy of being in a crowded room to feel an overwhelming sense of fear or chaos...

  • Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

  • Repeat the deep breathing two more times.

  • Call in your spirit guides to help cleanse, ground, and shield your energy.

  • Visualize a protective white light coming down from your crown, all the way down to your feet.

  • Imagine this white light turning into a strong, protective bubble.

  • Watch this bubble expand out to fill the entire space, or room, around you.

  • As the bubble expands, it also gets brighter.

  • Ask your guides to transmute the energy in the room into a more peaceful and loving vibration.

  • Take a deep breath. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Open your eyes.

The exercise can be done as often as you need, in order to keep you feeling calm and at peace.

It helps to cleanse energy any time you are headed into a space where you know you will be affected. Simply take a minute before you go into the crowd or space, breathe and visualize.

To your journey, march forth!

Lots of love,

Elizabeth
