Happy 2021, everyone. It’s a new year.
Who else is ready to shake off the doldrums of 2020, and move into a new year?...or were you over 2020 by last June?
Have you made any resolutions? Do you know what you are looking for? How do you want to feel 1 year from now? … I know - these are not new questions.
Maybe you have been asking for the same thing over and over again for while now. Maybe you are like me, and have found yourself saying or thinking:
“Universe, I am tired of waiting!”
If you are anything like me, this fist-shaking, frustration-ridden comment happens when you see the big picture, that big thing that you are trying to achieve or obtain for your life, and remember that it has yet to manifest in your life.
In the past, for me, it was my bakery. I saw the vision for the shop. I could smell the cookies. I could hear the laughter from the customers. I could even feel the dough on my hands, as I was kneading cinnamon r
olls. That vision was so crystal clear in my mind, but I spent so much time, effort, and energy feeling like crap because it hadn’t yet happened, fully.
I was baking. I was making money. I was finding my way with the time, resources, energy that I had in the moment, and taking the next steps to get where I wanted to be. A few January months came and went before I could step back and see that the vision had manifested fully.
Even now, I have goals. The vision for my writing. The plan for my business. I know where I want to go. That knowing, the vision, has never been an issue for me. A lot of people told me I had drive, and that made me strong.
In reality, I was impatient. Oh...so...impatient! That impatience, in fact, actually dulled my vision, because it dulled my focus. The impatient part of me, the one that wanted it “right now” would push her way through just about everything, and looking for the easy way to get to the final destination.
I kept telling the Universe I was tired of waiting. I kept asking, over and over again, for the next steps. I wanted to be that overnight, instant success. You know you have felt this, too. You stake your claim to what you want, place your order with the cosmos, and you fall asleep thinking, hoping, wishing, and dreaming that your order would be filled by the time you open your eyes the next morning.
When morning came, there was no tree with
a big present from the universe waiting with my name on it. Just a reminder for me that there was still work to do. Yes, there were synchronicities, but for the longest time, I didn’t really understand what manifestation meant, or how it worked. It’s more of a co-creation. Those synchronicities are gifts from the universe, letting you know you are on the right track, and make things move a bit easier for you.
The problem is -- far too often we negate the value of those synchronous moments, when things just seem to fall into place. We tell ourselves “it can’t be that easy…” and move back into a place of resistance and fear, as we try to hold on, oh so tightly, to the vision for what we want, trying to control every aspect of the vision, including how it comes to us. We forget that, hey, life really can be that easy, when you show up and do the work.
I have come to know this…
There is this invisible bridge that exists between us and “the thing” that we want. We see the big picture. We see where we are standing now. That tiny bridge, for me, actually looked like a giant, gaping, scary canyon. I was frustrated. I was sad. I
was scared. That canyon encompassed all of the reasons, fears, irrational thoughts that kept me from getting across, all summed up in the following phrases…
“I don’t want to do ____.”
I can’t do ____.”
“I am too afraid to do ___.”
“What if it never happens!”
“What if I fail?”
Have you ever found yourself saying any of these? They don’t feel so good, do they?
Here’s the thing, though - it becomes so easy to focus on the big picture that we miss the next step. It’s right there in front of us. Every single next step that we take gets us where we want to go.
When you are standing there, like I have so many times in the past, shaking your fist and crying at the Universe, looking for “the thing” to come your way, remember, you aren’t a canyon or bridge away from it...
You are one step away.
It’s about co-creation. Action. Inspired action. You don’t have to have the big picture right in front of you. Step-by-step, little by little, bit-b
y-bit. These are what you need to create the life you want.
And maybe a little bit of patience (or, like me, a big whopping, whole lot of a heap of it)!
Keep the vision of what you want, but realize that you already are that “thing” - it’s already there for you. The fact that the next step is there proves it. You don’t have to have every detail figured out. And if it did, somehow, magically appear one day - you woke up and had all the money and success you thought you wanted, where would that leave you? Far too often we downplay the importance of learning, of progress, and of growth. You do not have to have it all figured out. It’s okay to sit in the uncertainty. It’s okay to be a work-in-progress. It’s okay to have a plan, and let it play out, step-by-step.
Remember: you are only one step away. So what is it that you are looking to create? What is that big picture? And what is the one step you can take today to solidify it for yourself
